Love Is a Verb

The Golden Nugget: Love acts.

Weekly Verse: “Love never fails.” —1 Corinthians 13:8

Weekly Message:
Perhaps one of the Scripture passages most frequently read at Christian weddings is 1 Corinthians 13:4–8. It’s often picked by the couple because it speaks to the nature of love. It tells us that love is an action word, a verb. Love doesn’t keep score. It does nothing evil. Love rejoices when it encounters truth. The action of love includes protecting, trusting, hoping, and persevering.

God has given you the ability to love because it is, as 1 Corinthians 12:31 says, “the most excellent way.” When you act in love, you are patient and kind. Love cannot be limited by an emotion because love will act outside that emotion. And that is the bottom line: love acts. Can you see how love is the greatest of action words?

Consider This:

  • How does thinking of love in emotional terms limit our expectations about love?
  • What is a perfect example of love?

Take Action:
It’s easy to love those who love you. Tomorrow, practice showing love to someone who is challenge for you to love.
