The Golden Nugget: Uncommon goodness is possible as we experience God’s Spirit at work in our lives.
Weekly Verse: “Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.” –Ephesians 5:8–10
Weekly Message:
Goodness already exists. You probably know people that do good things. They might feed the homeless or volunteer at a senior center. But what is the “uncommon goodness” that is possible when God’s Spirit is in us?
Humanity’s capacity for goodness somehow intersects with us every day. Could it be uncommon goodness when we think and behave like God thinks and behaves? Could it be that uncommon goodness is the state of being when we walk in the way of love, just as Jesus loved?
You are God’s dearly beloved child. As such, God wants you to inherit everything of his being. He wants you to be wise, compassionate, merciful, and good. The Lord invites you to a state of being in which his Spirit produces a fruitful life within you. God has a purpose in mind. The uncommon goodness you are capable of is meant for the benefit of others. God wants you to take care of all his creation. It’s a really good thing when it happens . . . uncommonly good.
Consider This:
- Why does God care how you treat others?
- How do you think God feels if people fail to be good all the time?
Take Action:
For the next twenty-four hours, in every conversation with another person—not only in pleasant discussions—say the sentence, “Bless you.” Say it when casually greeting a stranger, when in a tense or emotional exchange—any and all encounters. And be blessed yourself as you speak with uncommon goodness.
