Three Words

Golden Nugget: “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Daily Verse: “I am the way and the truth and the life.” —John 14:6

Daily Message:

What three words would you use to describe yourself? Try to summarize your purpose, your goals, and the significance of your life in only three words.

Jesus did this for himself: way, truth, life.

The way: Jesus’ words and actions show us the way to God. His life points us in the direction of how God wants us to live, illuminating the way of humility and self-sacrifice for the sake of others. But not only did he show us the way, Jesus himself actually is the way to salvation. A relationship with Jesus is the way to access and connect with God.

The truth: Jesus reframed the entire conversation about truth. He changed it forever. He claimed that truth is not to be found in abstract ideas or theories. It is found in a person—Jesus himself. We know the truth when we know Jesus.

The life: In John 15, Jesus refers to himself as the vine and us as the branches. The branches cannot produce fruit apart from the vine. Jesus is our ultimate source of life, our link to God the Father and life eternal.

Consider This:

  • How does knowing who Jesus is help us know who we are?
  • Which of the three descriptors do you understand best—the way, the truth or the life?
  •

Take Action:

Pray throughout the day that God would use your life to point people toward the life, the truth, and the way that Jesus is.
