The Golden Nugget: “I have come that they might have life, and have it to the full.” —Jesus, John 10:10
Weekly Verse: “In [Jesus] was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” —John 1:4-5
Weekly Message:
The Gospel of John in the Bible changed the way humans understood God. The Old Testament has images of God as a cloud covering the top of the mountain, a burning bush, and a God whose robe fills the heavenly temple. Through Jesus, God completely revealed himself as a God who is majestic but also cries, falls, and is spit upon.
John’s Gospel is about the life God wants to give you. The opening of the book of John says Jesus came into the world and that in him was life. Around the middle of the gospel, Jesus says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Then, toward the end of the book, we read that Jesus came to earth so that we “might have life in his name.” God’s purpose in Jesus is that you have eternal life filled with everything that is good and beautiful and divine. It’s a full life when God fills it. He wants to do his best work in your life.
Consider This:
-
The Bible says Jesus came so that we could have full lives. What do you think is the difference between a life that Jesus made full and one that is not?
-
Do you feel like you have areas of your life you’d like God to make full?
Take Action:
Make a list of what people think you should be doing with your life. Now make a list of what you think God would want you to do with your life. Tomorrow, start living the life you think God wants for you.
