Across her region, more than 700 languages compete to be heard. Rehana had nearly given up on being one of them — until a message arrived in the words she'd prayed in since childhood.
Growing up in a Muslim household in South Asia, Rehana was familiar with praying. She’d been doing it for years.
But lately, it felt like the words stopped at the ceiling. She was walking through a hard season, and no matter how often she prayed, the silence pressed back. The heaviness never lifted. She started to wonder if anyone was listening at all.
What she wanted was simple, and deeply human: someone who would just listen. Someone who wouldn't judge her.
As she scrolled through social media, a Gospel ad caught her attention and led her to a place where she could send her questions. On the other side, an Online Missionary was ready to answer.
In a region defined by more than 700 distinct languages and thousands of dialects, it’s easy for an individual voice to feel swallowed by the noise. For Rehana, religion had always been recited in formal, distant words. It was reverent, but never personal.
Then the reply came.
It wasn't in a foreign tongue. It came in Bengali. The language she grew up speaking. The language closest to her heart.
For a woman who had felt unheard for so long, that changed everything. There was no barrier to translate across, no distance to bridge. Just words she understood, from someone who listened with patience and compassion. For the first time in a long time, Rehana didn't feel alone.
And then the OM began to talk about Isa Masih. Jesus Christ.
From her Muslim background, Rehana knew the name. To her, Jesus had always been a prophet. A figure of respect, but distant. She had never once heard Him described the way this OM described Him now: His love. His sacrifice. A God who gave Himself for her.
She wanted to hear more. So she asked.
The OM shared a verse, Matthew 11:28, where Jesus says:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
For a woman who had been carrying so much, alone, those words landed differently. Weary. Burdened. It was as if Jesus were describing the exact weight on her shoulders, and then offering to carry it.
Through conversation after conversation, something began to shift. Grace stopped being an idea and started becoming a possibility. Rehana began to see that God wasn't a distant judge after all. He was someone she could actually know.
As she turned it all over in her heart, Rehana said the words out loud:
"I want to follow Jesus."
She still has questions. She isn't certain of everything yet. But Rehana couldn't deny what she had already felt: a real change, stirred by every message, every verse, every patient reply. With her Online Missionary beside her, she prayed, offering God the things that had been crushing her: her fears, her burdens, her life.
A woman who had felt alone for years had finally been met, right where she was, in the language of her own heart.
Her journey is just beginning. And right now, all over the world, others are asking the same quiet questions, waiting to find out if anyone is really there.
