Daily Message:
We all carry baggage. Bad things happen to us and we feel shame; the baggage gets heavier. We lie about something; it gets bulkier. Our selfish reaction hurts someone we love; it’s like we added a bag of cement to our shoulders.
Many of us carry these things until we die, believing its best to keep it all hidden. Then one day we will stand before God. He’ll ask us to open those bags, and it will probably be painful and awkward to see the suffering and frustration that we’ve carried and caused in our lives. But it doesn’t need to be that way.
Jesus reminds us that nothing hidden will stay hidden. One day you will stand before God to give an account for your life, but you don’t have to wait for that day to confess the baggage you’ve been carrying. Jesus made a way for us to do that now. Through his death and resurrection we can receive forgiveness and grace from God. Trust him and hand over the baggage that weighs you down today. Don’t wait for your first face-to-face conversation with him.
Consider This:
- When you look deep into your own heart and mind, do you see anything that has been hidden for a long time?
- When you do something wrong, is it hard for you to admit it and say you’re sorry? If so, why is that?
Take Action:
Set aside fifteen minutes today to have a heart-to-heart conversation with God. Use this conversation to get rid of the baggage you’ve been carrying.
