The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule

Golden Nugget: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

Daily Verse: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” —Matthew 7:12

Daily Message:

It seems like the wisest people are really good at making things easy to understand.  Jesus summarizes 1,500 years of Scripture in just one sentence: “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” We try so hard to grow spiritually, to become happier and more successful, to find God’s will for our lives. Yet we so often overlook the simple wisdom that says, “The best thing you can do right now is to treat people how you want to be treated.”

Focus there.

How do you want to be treated? Do you wish people would assume the best about your motives? Do you want people to take your talents and ideas seriously? Do you want people to ask your opinion? Is it important to you that people acknowledge the good things you do and not just the things you do wrong?

It’s a good idea for all of us to dust off the Golden Rule and remember its wisdom.

Consider This:

  • Do you complain about how people treat you?
  • Do you think people complain about how you treat them?

Take Action:

Consider all the ways you want to be treated and choose one to focus on today. Go out of your way to treat your coworkers, your family members, and your friends in that way.
