Golden Nugget: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
Daily Verse: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” —Mark 4:40
Daily Message:
His followers had seen him teach with astounding wisdom, heal the sick, and perform astonishing miracles. They had developed a deep admiration for and trust in Jesus. But at the time of the quote above, they were in a storm on a boat. Their confidence in Jesus went overboard as soon as their circumstances became uncomfortable and unpredictable.
When we first put our faith and trust in Jesus, we’re filled with a refreshing newness. It’s exciting to gain a clearer understanding of our purpose, a closeness with God. We fill up with his encouraging words. But when our circumstances become uncomfortable and difficult, it’s easy to trade trust in Jesus for panic and disbelief. We may even accuse him of not caring, as though he has left us to be swallowed by the waves.
Here’s the good news: He hasn’t gone anywhere. He’s still the same Jesus with the same power, which is even greater than we realize. And he’s with you.
Consider This:
- When in your life has it been easy to trust God?
- When has it been difficult?
Take Action:
Open your Bible and underline Mark 4:40. Keep this in mind the next time you are tempted to panic or doubt God’s sovereignty. Keep the faith.
