A Missionary's Global Journey

Crushed by grief and ready to end her life, a UK widow sent a desperate message into the digital void. Through relentless prayer across 6,500 miles, an East African missionary pulled her back from the edge — sparking a spiritual transformation that reached her entire family.

Scrolling online for a glimmer of hope in the midst of a dark and difficult situation, a woman in the United Kingdom named Marie clicked on an ExploreGod ad to connect with an Online Missionary (OM). She wasn’t even sure what exactly she was hoping for.

But sitting in our African Ministry Hub in East Africa — more than 6,500 miles away — Oswagoh was ready to share the light of Jesus and the power of prayer. That unique digital connection ultimately pulled a grieving widow back from the edge of despair and toward a life with Christ.

For Oswagoh, guiding people on their spiritual journeys to Jesus isn't just about answering messages — it's an opportunity to share the beauty and mystery of God with men and women who need it most.

In Marie’s case, Oswagoh’s passion for spreading the Good News was truly life-changing. It’s a passion he’s carried with him as far back as he can remember.

Trading Physical Doors for a Global Reach

Raised in a Christian household, Oswagoh had attended church every Sunday since childhood. But simply sitting in a pew wasn't enough; he wanted to actively share the Gospel.

"I had been doing door-to-door evangelism and preaching about Christianity for a long time," he said. "When I learned about ExploreGod and they shared that I would be going beyond people in my region, my race, my color, reaching people in other countries, it was a good deal for me."

His heart extended far past the borders of his hometown.

"We have people suffering beyond here," he added. "Being able to reach people far beyond your physical reach is a blessing."

After years of working with local youth through International Christian Youthworks (ICY) Africa, a partnership with ExploreGod opened an entirely new frontier for evangelism. In just four months of serving as an OM, Oswagoh connected with more than 6,000 contacts.

These men and women face endless challenges. But to Oswagoh, that just means endless opportunity to share the hope of Christ.

A Life-Saving Digital Anchor

"Volunteering with ExploreGod, you're experiencing real life outside your own bubble," Oswagoh said. "We have people in Middle East countries who are ready to be a Christian, but they might have a problem when it comes to fellowship or community with other Christians...they just don't have a local church. So you have to give them hope every day."

He delivers that daily hope through relentless prayer.

"What it always comes to, universally, is 'Let's pray about it,'" he said. "I use prayer as my guide because God works in mysterious ways."

That fierce commitment to prayer recently became a life-saving anchor for Marie, the woman from the UK with whom Oswagoh had connected.

"Marie's husband had just recently died, and she was really going through a lot," he said. "I could feel the grief through the messages she was sending. She wanted to commit suicide because her husband had died and she had nothing."

Operating across an ocean, Oswagoh urgently interceded for her.

"I kept telling her, 'Don't give up, stay strong,'" he said. "She later replied that someone had hired her for work. She was so grateful and repeatedly thanked me. I told her, 'It wasn't I who helped you, but God who worked through this situation.'"

The impact of that intervention quickly spread to the rest of Marie's family.

"I was able to message through prayer what really came to my mind, and it was weeks of replies — long replies — sharing Bible verses daily," he said. "It was like we were doing a small discipleship group with Marie. Then she prayed with her daughter, who was also struggling. That was a special outcome."

Seeing Beyond the Screen

While OMs log on to pour out to others, the work consistently strengthens their own faith, too.

"[Serving as an OM] has really given me insight on seeing things beyond what my eyes can see...seeing things spiritually," Oswagoh said. "The more I learn what individuals are going through, the more I understand how God can use me to help them find answers to their problems."

The constant engagement with seekers actually equips him to better evangelize to his friends and family in person.

"You may be speaking to a friend who is facing a problem, and since you're working in the Bible so much as an OM, you already have a good answer for how to help him with his problem because you're studying and using Scripture every day," he said.

Oswagoh specifically pursues digital connections that will endure far beyond a single message.

"I look for conversations that are going to last for a long time, because I want to build a relationship with the person," he said. "I recently met someone from a West African country. She was a Muslim and we are growing together on a discipleship journey."

Stepping into Peter and Paul’s Shoes

For believers looking to expand their impact, the digital mission field offers an unmatched frontier.

"ExploreGod is a place where you can use your spiritual zeal to evangelize to someone," he said. "It goes beyond door-to-door, reaching person-to-person. You get to reach different people in different places and understand the problems seekers from different parts of the world are going through, so you're growing too."

He views this digital outreach as a modern continuation of the early church's global expansion.

"You might be that Peter or Paul who gets to evangelize to someone and serve them," he said. "Not through walking and going there physically, but through using media to spread the Gospel."

"What I believe as a Christian is to serve and save others," he added. "ExploreGod gives you that platform to be able to save lives and save souls."
