Do You Want to Get Well?

Do You Want to Get Well?

Golden Nugget: “Do you want to get well”

Daily Verse: “Do you want to get well?” —John 5:6

Daily Message:

Thirty-eight years earlier a man became ill, and he never walked again. For thirty-eight years he waited for help. No one came. On one particular day he was at a pool in the city where sick people would go to be healed. Every time it was his turn to enter the water, someone would always push him aside and take his place. Rejected and alone, the man lamented that no one would help him. Then Jesus asked a simple question: “Do you want to get well?”

Yes, Jesus healed this man, which illustrates God’s desire for the world; he wants to make things right. But there’s more than that going on in this story. If we look even deeper, we see something about ourselves. We can spend so much time waiting and waiting for an answer to our problems of emptiness, pain, loneliness, and addiction—and get so caught up in self-pity that we never realize that Jesus is asking us the same question: “Do you want to get well?”

The beautiful thing about saying yes to Jesus is that he does make us well—in the deepest and most wonderful way—but then he also sends us out to share the same love and concern for others that he has shown to us. That’s when we discover how good it really is to be well.

Consider This:

  • Do you know anyone who feels hopeless right now?
  • In what ways would you like Jesus to make you well?

Take Action:

Read John chapter 5 and make a list of all the things you observe about Jesus.
