Legos and Letting Go

Golden Nugget: “Give, and it will be given to you.”

Daily Verse: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” —Luke 6:38

Daily Message:

Sam loves Legos. You might say he’s obsessed. He can be very greedy and controlling with them, especially with his younger brother. But as an eight-year-old child, he has some remarkable moments of clarity about this obsession. One morning, he gathered a series of his favorite ninja Lego pieces and put them in a bag to give away. He’d heard of a child who also liked ninja Legos but didn’t have any. So he asked his mom to take him to this child’s house so he could drop off the bag in the mailbox.

Most of us have enough to give, but we live with a fear of scarcity. So we store up what we can for ourselves. This is a natural impulse to gather and save, and it’s a good thing—sometimes. It’s good to gather and it’s good to give; but without the latter, the former becomes greed. In the economy Jesus describes, giving is the most important investment of all, and it is the gate to real, true abundance and blessing. So we don’t have to wait for a moment of clarity. We can give now and experience the freedom that awaits us.

Consider This:

  • What are you overly attached to right now?

Take Action:

Give to a cause, a group, or a person you’ve always wanted to support.
