Golden Nugget: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant...For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve.”
Daily Verse: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” —Mark 10:43–45
Daily Message:
Imagine yourself standing in front of a large lecture hall full of students or colleagues. Your goal is to convince everyone in that room that you are the best, most qualified person in the building. Convince them to respect and listen to you. What does that feel like?
Now imagine yourself in the same lecture hall with the same people but an altered goal. This time your goal isn’t about you; it’s to do your best to help each person in that room reach their fullest potential. Does that feel different?
The words of Jesus remind us that our significance—our greatness—is not found in trying to convince others that we’re the center of the universe. Greatness is achieved in making sacrifices so other people can flourish. God himself came to earth to remind us of that.
Consider This:
- How often do you feel you must prove yourself?
- Have you ever been appreciated for being willing to serve? When and where?
Take Action:
The next time you have a meeting, make a conscious effort to look for ways you can help someone else succeed.
