Work for the Lord

Golden Nugget: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

Daily Verse: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” —Colossians 3:23

Daily Message:
My husband was made to be an engineer. I can see his face light up when he has a mathematical problem to solve—even problems that make my brain shut down just by reading them. When he is solving math problems, he is doing something God made him to do. And he is working at it with all his heart.

Each of us has unique skills and talents. I rejoice that this verse says “whatever you do.” It doesn’t say that I have to be someone I’m not or that I have to do something someone else does (no math problems for me!). Today’s verse encourages us to give everything we have. In whatever we do, wherever we are, we are to devote ourselves wholeheartedly to the task at hand—as though we were working directly for God, not people.

Why should we work with gusto? Because ultimately everything we do is for God, not for anyone else. God is who we want to please—he is our boss. We are to work joyfully with our whole hearts.

Consider This:

  • What are some things you feel you were made to do?
  • When was a time you worked at something with all your heart?
  • If God were to come into your office and assign you a task, how would you go about completing it?

Take Action:
Find a quote that reminds you that your motivation to work hard is to please God. Put this quote somewhere you can see it daily. Today’s verse would be a great choice.
